One Kiwi bet big on Ryan Fox to win the British Open, but cashed out before the golf pro took out the competition in his historic win.
The 39-year-old golfer pulled off a miracle shot on the 18th hole of the last round, winning the Open and beating American Cameron Young by a single shot.
Paul Maoate from TAB told the Sports Nation podcast that the unlucky punter had put $1500 on Fox winning the Open championship before the tournament had started, with odds of 151 to 1.
This meant that for every dollar bet, they would have gotten $151 in return.
The bet would have returned about $226,500 for the win.
“Then he had a look and before they teed off the third round he goes ‘no Foxy’s too far back,’ and he cashed out for a loss,” Maoate said.
