American Express is stepping onto the Old Continent.
Amex is opening a brand-new Centurion Lounge in Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, marking the company’s first space under the Centurion umbrella to debut in continental Europe. The locale will be nestled between Concourses E and F at the international hub, which is a popular spot for card members both in the Netherlands and beyond.
And the lounge certainly leans into its location in terms of design. The nearly 6,000-square-foot space has many touches that are inspired by Amsterdam itself. The color palette on display, such as the rich blues, greens, and earth tones, is an homage to the city’s famed landscapes and canals—and the new locale also nods to the houses that dot the waterways in its linear design. Other touches include black quartzite, brass trim, and warm woods throughout for an overall modern design, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows. Amex leans even further into its latest location by spotlighting local Dutch artists in the space: Mieke Jonker crafted a painting of the American Express bulldog, which sits proudly at the entrance, while other motifs from the country such as Delft Blue plates, floral designs, and silhouettes of former Dutch royalty are the main focus of artworks throughout the lounge.
In terms of cuisine, American Express is serving up seasonal offerings that embrace both Dutch and other regional European dishes. And there’s two bars on offer here: the Blue Roast Coffee Bar, with locally sourced coffee, and a full bar with beer and cocktails, if you want to indulge in a tipple or two before you take off. Plus, the space is full of plenty of plush seating, whether you prefer high-top tables, café tables, armchairs, or benches for a bit more privacy.
“The opening of the American Express Lounge is a great addition to Schiphol’s lounge offering, Tim de Bie, commercial terminal director at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, said in a press statement. “Passengers increasingly value choice in how they spend their time at the airport, whether they want to relax, work or recharge before their flight. This new lounge adds a distinctive premium hospitality concept and further strengthens the quality and diversity of the passenger experience at Schiphol.”
The lounge officially opens its doors tomorrow, September 17. And it’s in good company: Amex has over 1,550 lounges found across the globe, with 33 in particular that are part of the Centurion Lounge family. Other future spaces from the company will be popping up in places such as Newark, Boston Logan, and Charlotte Douglas. Happy flying.
