Ahead of her appearance on the reality show “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” actor Candace Cameron Bure spoke with FOX News host Lara Trump about doing hard things, sharing her faith, and growing up as a Christian in Hollywood.
Bure, 50, said she joined the military-style competition because she has “upped my fitness game” and wants to “say yes to the things that scare me.”
Season 5 of “Special Forces,” set in the Malaysian jungle, premieres on Sept. 24. In the trailer, Bure vomits and screams while other celebrity contestants are thrown off cliffs and try to avoid snakes.
Candace Cameron Bure: God Eases My Fears
During an interview that aired Sept. 3, Lara Trump asked Candace Cameron Bure how she prepared for the grueling competition. The key part, Bure said, was preparing mentally and spiritually.
“I memorized a lot of Scripture…because I knew I was going to have to draw upon that to remind myself that God doesn’t give me a spirit of fear,” Bure said. “[God] gives me a spirit of power and love and of a sound mind. And I reminded myself…that he says, ‘Candace, don’t be afraid. Be courageous, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’”
When asked if she’s ever been counseled to downplay her faith, the actor credited her “core people” and managers for never recommending that. Bure has lost work and been called polarizing because of her outspoken nature, though.
“But if I didn’t talk about [my faith],” Bure said, “I wouldn’t be authentic to me and who I am. And my faith has been a part of me and important to me since I was a little girl.” If she stopped talking about Jesus, Bure added, “then I would just stop talking about all the things that make me who I am.”
After commending Bure for her Christian witness, Trump asked if that was ever frightening. The actor admitted she used to be “scared all the time” but didn’t “want fear to rule my life.”
God “always shows up” and offers strength when she’s weak, Bure continued. “I just say yes because it allows me to see what God is going to do with the situation that I’m super fearful about.”
