Vice principal killed, 3 injured in attack by former students at Torreón school

Two 18-year-old twin brothers were detained following an attack at the Number 13 Secondary School in Ejido La Unión, Torreón, Coahuila, on Thursday. The incident resulted in the death of vice principal Nery Edith Narváez González, who was in her mid-fifties. Three other individuals, including students, sustained injuries. Witnesses indicated that the explosions began in the bathroom and students sought shelter in classrooms. The alleged attackers were reported to be armed with machetes and explosives. Authorities were informed that the aggressors had "feelings" against school staff, which preliminary investigations suggested was a factor in the attack. Two of the injured students were reported in serious condition. Federal and state authorities, including the Coahuila Attorney General's Office and federal security cabinets, responded to the event and initiated investigations.

The narrative presents a juxtaposition between institutional safety and deeply personal grievances that manifest as violent action within a community setting. The presence of former students as perpetrators introduces a dynamic where existing social relationships are violently inverted, suggesting that animosities—implied by the mention of "feelings against staff"—can escalate to lethal confrontation when mediated through weapons. The involvement of explosives alongside bladed weapons suggests a premeditated, high-stakes intent rather than spontaneous rage. Furthermore, the swift, multi-agency response from federal and state authorities indicates an acknowledgment that this event transcends a local crime into a matter of broader security concern impacting the educational community. The pattern involves latent tensions within a structured environment—a school—where grievances are channeled through extreme violence. The implications point toward failures in addressing underlying relational conflicts before they crystallize into physical harm, raising questions about the protective capacity of institutions and the mechanisms for resolving interpersonal discord. What is missing is the structural context of these "feelings" and the history of previous interactions, which would be necessary to move beyond the immediate factual sequence to understand the systemic roots of such violence.
