The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has significantly reduced water consumption across its port facilities, according to its 2024 Sustainability Report.
The report shows a 33.8 per cent reduction at the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia, with total consumption falling to 25,838 cubic metres (m³) from 39,047 m³ in 2023.
The figures cover water used in buildings and for irrigating gardens at port facilities. The reduction is largely attributed to measures implemented during the past fiscal year, including adjustments to irrigation zones following construction work and network improvements in areas where recurring failures had occurred.

The Port of Valencia accounted for the largest share of the decline, with consumption falling to 19,836 m³ from 34,755 m³ the previous year, the main driver behind the APV’s overall reduction. At the Port of Sagunto, consumption stood at 5,598 m³, while the Port of Gandía recorded 404 m³.
Efficient water management forms part of Valenciaport’s environmental strategy and its broader commitment to continuous sustainability improvement, implemented through the APV’s Environmental Management System, certified under the ISO 14001 standard and the EMAS Regulation.
The APV monitors water consumption and efficiency indicators on an ongoing basis, assessing trends and identifying opportunities for improvement.
