KUCHING (July 8): Close coordination among all stakeholders is crucial to ensure the successful and timely completion of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Rembus Depot, said Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.
Speaking during a visit to the Rembus Depot construction site in Kota Samarahan, Lee said effective communication and cooperation among Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, the depot contractor AIU JV, utility providers, and relevant government departments and agencies were essential to keeping construction on schedule while minimising disruptions.
He said efforts must be made to reduce interruptions to utility services and ensure the project progresses efficiently.
“I believe continuous collaboration among stakeholders will contribute to the successful delivery of the project,” he said after receiving a briefing from Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Mazli Mustaffa on the latest progress of the depot.
Also present was State Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.
Lee also reminded all parties involved to continue prioritising safety throughout the construction period.
Meanwhile, Mazli reaffirmed Sarawak Metro’s commitment to delivering a depot that meets the highest operational, technical and safety standards.
He said the company was focused on building a facility that not only fulfils technical and safety requirements but also supports efficient day-to-day operations once the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system begins service.
“That is why we are working closely with all our partners to ensure every component is delivered to the highest standards,” he said.
Located in Kota Samarahan, the Rembus Depot will serve as the main operations and maintenance hub for the KUTS network.
The facility will house the administration and operations control centre, mechanical and infrastructure workshops, stabling yard, test track, hydrogen production plant and hydrogen refuelling facilities.
