Zelensky highlighted the historical significance of the US in the 20th century, noting its role in forming alliances that provided long-term peace and democratic development for a significant portion of humanity. He drew direct parallels between the founding principles of the US and Ukraine’s current situation.
“Now, in the 21st century, the influence and importance of America are certainly no less. And we see this especially in Ukraine, which is fighting for its independence, freedom, and the right to happiness for our people with virtually the same hopes, the same meaning, and the same energy with which Americans fought for and defended their independence,” Zelensky stated.
The president expressed deep appreciation for US military assistance, specifically mentioning crucial weapons systems. “American weapons, from the Javelins that [US] President [Donald] Trump decided to provide to Ukraine, to the Patriots that most reliably protect the lives of our people – everything with which the US has helped us defend our country proves the strength of the American spirit, American determination, and American technology,” he said.
Ukraine, Poland and the Problem of Memory Without Clean Hands
Zelensky concluded by quoting the Declaration of Independence regarding the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, asserting that these truths unite those who respect and rely on US leadership today.
Diplomatic greetings from the Foreign Ministry
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also issued a congratulatory message, directing his remarks to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the American public. Sybiha underscored that the values of freedom and the right to self-determination, fundamental to the US founding, also form the core of Ukrainian statehood.
“These are the values Americans defended during the War of Independence, and these are the values Ukrainians are fighting for today, defending their homeland from Russia’s war of aggression,” Sybiha wrote on X.
Sybiha noted that international support remains as vital today as it was 250 years ago for securing freedom. He expressed gratitude to the US and its citizens for their support during “the darkest times” and specifically thanked Trump “for his tireless efforts to end the war.”
In a separate statement, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the importance of the strategic partnership between Kyiv and Washington. The Ministry stressed that continued US assistance and sustained pressure on Russia are essential for achieving a “comprehensive, just, and lasting peace.”
Happy 250th anniversary to the United States of America, @SecRubio, and all Americans.

The US Semiquincentennial
The US is currently marking its Semiquincentennial – the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776.
The document, primarily authored by Thomas Jefferson, formally severed ties with Great Britain and established the fundamental ideological framework for the new nation.
Official commemorative events, organized under the “Freedom 250” initiative and other federal and state programs, are being held across the US. These include historical exhibitions, special coin issuances by the US Mint, and large-scale public celebrations in major cities such as Washington DC, Boston, and Philadelphia.
