Typically, the mule version of the iconic hiking boot comes in an array of upper materials, such as woven leather, quilted textile or canvas. But YMC’s makeover in brushed suede brought more versatility to the silhouette, while also adding a decidedly outdoorsy aesthetic.
Well, the pairing is back once again with two new variants. And this time around, the mule is more refined than ever.
Hair today
Dropping in black and brown, the latest Moab 2 Slide swaps the brushed suede from last year’s release for hairy suede. The collab keeps the versatility of the monochromatic slides but nudges them even more into streetwear territory.
Both silhouettes feature black mudguards and black soles underneath, riding on Vibram Ecostep Recycle outsoles. Made up of 30 percent recycled rubber, the bottoms still provide plenty of grip on both wet and dry terrain. The front of the slip-on also retains the typical protective rubber toe cap.
On the midsole, Merrell branding matches its respective upper color. The all-black option is arguably more stylish for urban wear, but the brown leans into Merrell’s outdoor proclivity quite perfectly.
YMC Creative Director Sage Toda-Nation states, “Following on from our last collaboration with Merrell, we wanted to continue with our take on the Moab slide. The shoe is a style that I believe can integrate seamlessly into someone’s life who lives between the city and the outdoors.”
Price and availability
The Merrell x YMC Mule 2 Slide is currently available from YMC’s website for $150. It will get an expanded release on September 21 from Merrell’s store and other retailers.
