One year in prison for Belgian with driving ban that led to a 'slow' police car
A man in Belgium has been sentenced to one year in prison for ignoring his lifetime driving ban. The man whistled at the light after whistling at an unrecognizable police car, write Belgian media.
The man from Sint-Niklaas, southwest of Antwerp, was at a traffic light behind the police car. He whistled and gestured wildly at the car because, in his opinion, it was not moving fast enough.
Agents in the unrecognizable police car were reportedly conducting a check at that time and pulled the car to the side.

The agents discovered that the man not only had a lifetime driving ban, but he was also driving on a forbidden side street.
According to Belgian media, the man already had a considerable criminal record, including various traffic violations. He had also previously ignored his driving ban.
'Especially idiotic'
The man's lawyer admitted that what he did was "especially idiotic." The public prosecutor requested a suspended sentence linked to taking a traffic course.
The man would not have known that he had a driving ban. He would have used his car to do groceries and for his children. The judge did not agree because the "facts are far too serious" for that.
In addition to a prison sentence, the man also received a fine of 6400 euros and a new driving ban. The judge also declared him physically unfit to drive again.
