…Hosts Lagos State local government media delegates
Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) has called on local government media officers to uphold the highest standards of ethics, accuracy, and transparency in public communication, stressing that credible information is essential to strengthening public trust and promoting good governance.
The call was made during a capacity-building programme for media delegates from Lagos State’s local government councils.
Uchenna Uzo, the deputy vice-chancellor in charge of academic at Pan-Atlantic University, in his welcome address, thanked the delegates for honouring the university with their presence.
He reminded them that the world is looking to them to accurately convey what is genuinely happening across Lagos State, underscoring the weight of responsibility carried by local government communicators in shaping public understanding and trust.
Uzo further emphasised that Pan-Atlantic University is deeply concerned with how information is communicated, insisting that it must be passed on ethically and with integrity.
“As part of the university’s strategic goals heading into 2027, PAU is committed to ensuring that every student who passes through its halls is groomed and recognised as a competent and ethical leader,” he said.
Frank Wiggle, the director of university relations and development/ head of community relations at Pan-Atlantic University, speaking to the delegates, noted that the university leads by example, stressing that the institution’s values are demonstrated through its actions and deeds, not merely its words.
Wiggle also took the delegates through the history of the university, sharing the story behind its establishment, its buildings, and the heritage behind the names attached to them.
A delegation of media personnel from Local Government Areas across Lagos State visited Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) recently for a day of engagement, capacity building, and dialogue with the theme, ‘Ethical Commitments and Community Relations’, aimed at enhancing the role of ethical, accurate, and impactful communication in public service.
As part of the day’s programme, master’s students from the School of Media and Communication led an interactive session for the delegates, covering key topics including community relations, crisis management and ethical communications.
The session was designed to equip the media personnel with practical tools and frameworks for engaging their communities responsibly and managing sensitive situations with professionalism and integrity.
The visit concluded with a tour of the university museum and a group photo session, marking a memorable close to a day of learning, exchange, and shared commitment to the values of truthful and ethical communication.
