Executive Summary
OperaDelaware has restructured its leadership and administrative staff to integrate new professional expertise and expand the responsibilities of its Company Artists. Effective September 1, 2026, the board of directors added four members: Nancy Dibert, Jim Hawkins, Selena Molina, and Ciro Poppiti, III. These individuals bring diverse backgrounds in marketing, playwriting, law, and government administration to the organization's governance.
Simultaneously, the organization has shifted toward a hybrid model where artistic talent assumes administrative duties. As of August 1, 2026, tenor Dane Suarez takes on the role of Marketing Manager, and soprano Emily Margevich becomes the Manager of Education and Community Engagement. While Margevich continues her artistic duties, including a lead role in the May 2027 production of “Orpheus,” these appointments indicate a strategic blending of performance and operational management within the company.
Full Take
The strongest version of this narrative is one of institutional growth and diversification. By bringing in a retired judge, a military officer/government official, and a marketing CEO, OperaDelaware is intentionally broadening its network of influence and professional oversight beyond the arts.
The most significant pattern here is the "artist-administrator" hybrid. By appointing Company Artists to managerial roles in marketing and education, the organization is collapsing the wall between the creative product and its promotion. While this ensures the marketing is "artist-led," it raises questions about the labor dynamics of the Company Artists. Are these expanded roles a strategic utilization of talent, or a response to budgetary constraints requiring the consolidation of professional administrative roles into existing artistic contracts?
The underlying paradigm is the professionalization of the non-profit arts entity. The board is no longer just a collection of patrons, but a strategic assembly of legal, civic, and commercial power.
Implications for agency involve the potential for burnout or conflict of interest when a performer is also the manager of their own promotional machine. However, it may also increase the authenticity of community engagement when the person designing the K-12 programs is the one actually performing for the students.

Bridge Questions:
1. How does the dual role of "Artist" and "Manager" affect the compensation and workload of the individuals involved?
2. To what extent does the addition of high-level legal and government officials signal a shift in the organization's strategic goals or funding targets?
3. Is this a sustainable model for growth, or a temporary measure to lean out administrative overhead?
Counterstrike Scan:
A coordinated influence campaign would use these appointments to create a false impression of sudden, massive institutional stability or political alignment to attract specific donors. The actual content is a standard corporate announcement of personnel changes and does not match that pattern.
