Robotic home-builder Reframe Systems, a company founded by former Amazon Robotics executives, will use a new $40m tranche of equity financing to build a second automated component factory in Massachusetts.
Inside the factory, robotic arms build panels and modules guided by software to automate repetitive steps like measuring, cutting, fastening and material handling.
The components are then transported to the prepared site where field teams assemble them and complete the connections and finishes.

Enti said the system can work with more traditional construction techniques based on what each project requires.
“The goal is to augment the entire construction process, making it more predictable and efficient while building on the methods and expertise that already work,” he said.
“Our software incorporates local zoning, terrain, climate and architectural requirements, then automatically generates the production files and field instructions used to build each home.”
New factory to replace the first
So far, Reframe has one operational microfactory, FAB0 in Andover, also in Massachusetts. The new one, FAB1 in Billerica, will replace FAB0 when it starts operating in October.
FAB1 is designed to produce up to 500 multifamily units or 250 single-family homes a year.
Reframe has completed 10 homes so far and aims to complete another 114 across the next year.

Its owners Jonathan and Marisol Talbot said: “After the fires, we were being told that a traditional construction rebuild could take years and could cost far more than we could afford. Reframe streamlined the process, secured the permits, coordinated with a contractor, and is completing our new wildfire-resilient home in months at a cost that worked for our family.”
