Ningbo-Zhoushan Port completed sea-rail intermodal transport volumes of 8,574 TEUs and 8,172 TEUs on 14 and 15 August respectively, breaking the 8,000-container threshold for two consecutive days.
The result pushed the port’s single-day transaction record above 8,500 TEUs. The breakthrough secured high-quality completion of the port’s monthly production targets and supported its focus on the “quarterly red” benchmark, while demonstrating the operational efficiency and hub capacity of the port’s sea-rail intermodal network.
Since the start of the year, the port’s sea-rail intermodal transport team has worked to expand external sources and services while tapping internal efficiencies, upgrading its multimodal operation system and improving collection and distribution turnover efficiency, according to the port.

The team has also sought policy support, expanded the inland cargo hinterland, optimised the intermodal transport network, and added new intermodal routes, station coverage and train frequency to strengthen the sea-rail logistics channel connecting inland areas, aiming to ensure stable operation of the logistics, industrial and supply chains.
Following Typhoon White Dolphin, concentrated cargo backlogs and shipping demand placed considerable pressure on production organisation.
The sea-rail intermodal team responded by coordinating with the Shanghai Railway Bureau, North No. 1 and North Third Collection Office, town offices and other terminal units, as well as freight forwarders, to manage railway port and station capacity and allocate sea-rail intermodal container freight flow.
