New chancellor John Healey gave his “growth speech 2026” on 7 September, pledging “to make Great Britain ‘growth Britain’ again”. Ahead of his first Budget on 28 October, Healey said he recognised that “the cost of business – that’s energy bills, regulation burdens, planning constraints, labour costs – has grown since Covid”.
