LTFRB summons taxi operator tagged in overcharging K-pop idol Soobin
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday said that it issued a show cause order against the operator of the cab that tried to overcharge Korean singer Soobin.
The alleged incident stemmed from Soobin’s vlog in Cebu, where the driver allegedly tried to raise the fare to P1,000, when the initial amount agreed upon was P500.
“This is a serious offense especially that this incident puts the name of our country in bad light in the international community. The viral video itself is already strong evidence," LTFRB chair Vigor Mendoza said.
The LTFRB has issued a show cause order against the operator of the taxi. The operator was also ordered to surrender the license plate of the taxi and the driver’s license of the driver.
Soobin, the leader of Tomorrow X Together, said that the price for the trip should have been P300, but the driver raised it to P500, citing high gas prices.
However, by the time they arrived at Soobin’s destination, the driver doubled the fare to P1,000. Soobin refused and informed the driver that he would report the incident.
While gas prices have indeed soared following the conflict in the Middle East, an intended fare hike across most land transportation vehicles was suspended.
