Her Majesty The Queen marked Plumpton College’s centenary during a visit to its Sussex campus, where she met students across wine, animal care and bakery programmes. Elsewhere, Vapoura Rum turned The Mandrake into music, American craft breweries gathered in Soho and judging began for the World Beer Awards 2026.
The Queen marks Plumpton College centenary
Her Majesty The Queen visited Plumpton College on 7 July as part of its centenary celebrations. A patron of both the Plumpton College Charitable Foundation and WineGB, she toured the college’s 800-hectare estate and met students working across animal care, veterinary studies, wine and bakery.
The visit included the college’s new lemur enclosure, canine hydrotherapy facilities and its Digital Centenary Vineyard. Her Majesty also explored the recently rebranded Plumpton Estate wine range before unveiling a plaque commemorating 100 years of land and environmental education at the South Downs campus.
Vapoura Rum turns The Mandrake into vinyl
Vapoura Rum launched The After Stories, a six-track vinyl EP inspired by the spaces of The Mandrake hotel in Fitzrovia. Producers CARALUS and Daniel Sehnawi translated rooms including Waeska, YOPO and the Masha Hari Theatre into music, with each track intended to capture the atmosphere of a particular corner of the hotel.
A companion cocktail menu ran across The Mandrake’s bars, using Vapoura Chapter One and Chapter Two in serves including Angel Sage, Velvet Cocoon and Sacred Bean. One copy of the record was framed permanently at the hotel, with a limited number released to the public.

Executive Summary
Recent industry activities highlight a intersection of traditional education, luxury branding, and international craft beverage trends. The centenary of Plumpton College was marked by a royal visit focusing on the institution's diverse agricultural and veterinary programs, specifically emphasizing the evolution of land and environmental education through its new digital vineyard and animal care facilities.
Simultaneously, the luxury beverage sector is experimenting with multi-sensory marketing. Vapoura Rum integrated auditory and gustatory experiences by pairing a site-specific vinyl EP with a curated cocktail menu at The Mandrake hotel. In the craft beer sector, there is a visible push toward international gastronomic synergy, evidenced by the Brewers Association pairing US craft beers with Japanese cuisine in Soho, while the global industry prepares for the 2026 World Beer Awards.
Full Take
The strongest version of this narrative is that of a vibrant, celebratory ecosystem where tradition (centenary celebrations and royal patronage) meets avant-garde marketing (synesthetic rum experiences) and global culinary fusion. It presents a world of high-culture curation and institutional prestige.
The underlying pattern here is the "lifestyle ecosystem"—the blurring of boundaries between education, art, and consumption. We see a trend where a product is no longer just a liquid (rum or beer), but a component of a broader "experience" (vinyl records, Japanese fusion, digital vineyards). The paradigm is one of prestige-signaling, where the value of the item is augmented by its association with exclusive spaces (Soho, Fitzrovia) or high-status figures.
From a perspective of agency, these narratives prioritize the "curated experience" over the raw product. The benefit accrues to luxury brands and institutions that can successfully synthesize these elements to maintain cultural relevance. The second-order consequence is the increasing "event-ization" of consumption, where the sensory atmosphere is as important as the quality of the beverage or the efficacy of the education.
Patterns detected: none
If this were an influence campaign, a bad actor would use "glamour-washing" to distract from institutional failures or market declines by flooding the feed with high-status imagery and royal associations. The actual content does not match this; it is a standard series of industry briefs.
Bridge Questions:
1. Does the shift toward "experience-based" consumption enhance or distract from the intrinsic quality of the products being marketed?
2. How does the integration of digital technology into traditional land education change the fundamental nature of environmental stewardship?
