A major donation has given new momentum to a citizen-led initiative to bring home stranded Malawians from South Africa.
Content creator and author Onjezani Kenani has confirmed receipt of K30 million from popular musician Patience Namadingo.
According to an account credit notification dated July 7, 2026, Kenani’s account was credited with MWK30,000,050.00 through an electronic transfer.
Kenani announced the development in a public statement on Monday.
“Dr Namadingo, thank you very much for transferring K30 million to me,” Kenani said.
He said the donation, combined with K29 million already in his account, will be used to hire transport for Malawians in need of repatriation.
“With this money, plus the K29 million I already have in my bank account, we will try our best to hire 3 buses and bring more than 200 Malawians home,” he stated.
Kenani noted that the collaboration demonstrates how Malawians can unite for a common cause despite not having a prior relationship.
“The Doc and I have never spoken, but we are able to work together for the good of the people,” he said.
He described Dr Namadingo as a “son of the soil” for responding to the call to support fellow citizens.
Kenani also extended gratitude to all members of the public who supported Dr Namadingo’s appeal.
He said public goodwill has been critical in mobilizing resources for the repatriation effort.
However, Kenani emphasized that more support is still required to meet the full cost of the operation.
“More is needed,” he urged.
“Let’s bring our fellow Malawians home,” he added.
The initiative comes amid growing calls for coordinated support to assist Malawians facing challenges abroad.
Organizers say the three buses will prioritize vulnerable individuals as part of the first phase of the repatriation drive.
