WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) today announced that the 2027 American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) will be administered at Pearson testing centers across the United States and Canada.
This change continues the MAA’s work to protect the integrity of its competitions and it follows the successful introduction of official competition sites for the 2026 USA Mathematical Olympiad and USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad, which brought top students together at 31 host institutions for the first time in the competitions’ history.
Students qualify for AIME through top performance on an MAA American Mathematics Competition (AMC). Eligible students who score 100 or above on AMC 10 and 85 on AMC 12 will qualify to register for AIME, which will be offered February 5 and 6, 2027. Qualifying students who wish to participate can select an available test time at the Pearson testing center of their choice. Other minor adjustments will be made to AIME test administration, and more information can be found here.
“The MAA is making changes to AIME administration in response to our community’s concerns about exam integrity. We understand the deeply important role our competitions play in the development of mathematical talent, and we want to make sure AIME is both widely available and fair,” said Karen Bliss, Director of Competitions Operations at the MAA.
An $85 registration fee will be required to participate in AIME. The MAA is committed to ensuring cost is not a barrier to participation; financial assistance will be available to any student who needs it, and details on how to request assistance will be provided to those who qualify to take the exam.
Registration for the 2026–2027 MAA Competitions cycle opens September 2, 2026. Competition managers and educators can find full details at https://maa.org/amcreg/
