Sydney Metro has awarded the contract to design and build the new Parramatta station on the Sydney Metro West project to a consortium comprising Gamuda and MTR Corporation.
The Parramatta Integrated Station Development contract was awarded on 3 September to the Riverside Link Consortium, comprising Gamuda Engineering Australia, Gamuda Australia and MTR Corporation Australia.
The principal construction component covers the design and construction of the future Parramatta metro station and associated station infrastructure. The contract also includes development rights for buildings above and adjacent to the station.
Parramatta will be one of nine stations on the 24km Sydney Metro West line, which will provide a new underground metro connection between Parramatta and Sydney CBD.
Major tunnelling for the project is already under way. The line is being excavated in a series of packages using TBMs between Westmead and the Sydney CBD, with the new Parramatta station forming a key intermediate location on the alignment.
Gamuda is already heavily involved in Sydney Metro West through the Gamuda Australia-Laing O’Rourke Consortium, which was awarded the A$2.16bn Western Tunnelling Package in 2022. That package includes 9km of twin metro tunnels between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park, excavation of station boxes at Westmead and Parramatta, and a service facility and crossover cavern at Rosehill.
The latest award therefore sees Gamuda return to the Parramatta site to deliver the permanent station following excavation of the station box under the tunnelling contract.
Sydney Metro West is designed to double rail capacity between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD, with trains expected to take around 20 minutes between the two centres.
