A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) has issued an update on operations at the Port of La Guaira in Venezuela following the earthquake of 24 June, outlining a phased schedule for the terminal’s return to normal activity.
The carrier said the safety and wellbeing of employees, partners and local communities remained its highest priority, adding that it continued to work closely with local authorities and port stakeholders to ensure operations resumed safely while supporting the continuity of customers’ supply chains.
Following ongoing assessments and coordination with relevant authorities, Maersk will begin a gradual return to operations at La Guaira according to the following schedule: in Week 30, the AS ANGELINA (v.630N) will evacuate empty containers only; in Week 31, the MAERSK CAP CARMEL (v.630S) will discharge full import containers only; and in Week 32, the AS ANGELINA (v.631S/632N) will resume both import and export operations through the port.
Maersk cautioned that the schedule remains subject to change depending on operational conditions at La Guaira, including terminal infrastructure readiness, equipment availability, access routes, safety assessments and regulatory guidance, and said it would continue to monitor the situation and adjust the plan as necessary.
The phased approach is intended to support a safe and stable return to normal operations while allowing port activities to ramp up progressively, offering a case study for how terminals recover operational capacity following a natural disaster.

Customers are encouraged to coordinate closely with their local Maersk representatives regarding cargo planning, export bookings, empty equipment positioning and import cargo availability during the transition period.
Cargo already discharged or redirected through alternative ports will continue to be managed according to previously communicated operational and customs guidance.
