Vice President Sara Duterte took a swipe at politicians who call for transparency and accountability but supposedly pursuing their own political interests, saying they should instead focus on making the lives of Filipinos better.
Duterte said this in an ambush interview in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on July 8, Wednesday, where she graced the Araw ng Bigaan and 65th Patronal Fiesta.
“Unang-una ipinapaabot ko sa ating mga opisyal ng pamahalaan na itigil na muna natin 'yung pamumulitika at pananawagan nila ng transparency at accountability pero ang totoong pakay nila ay ang kanilang sariling political interest,” the Vice President said when asked for her message to the people.
(First of all, I urge our government officials to stop politicking, specifically those who call for transparency and accountability but actually pursuing their own political interests.)
(I urge them to focus instead on the order, peace, and progress of our nation. Our fellow citizens have long been waiting for their lives to improve.)
Duterte, who is facing impeachment charges over allegations of culpable violation of the 1987 Constitution, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust, bribery, and other high crimes, also told Filipinos to not lose hope for the country.
(And to my fellow Filipinos, let us not lose hope that change will come to our country. Let us not lose faith in our ability to become a better nation.)
