H. Moser & Cie. and Alpine Motorsports continue their collaboration with a new creation, following the Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine Limited Edition and the more performance-oriented Alpine Drivers and Alpine Mechanics editions. The new Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Ceramic Alpine Limited Edition becomes only the second H. Moser & Cie. watch to use ceramic, after the Streamliner Tourbillon Concept Ceramic, presented earlier this year.
The Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton has already been presented in stainless steel and yellow gold, with its fluid integrated design providing a contemporary frame for the fully openworked calibre. For this new Alpine edition, however, the entire watch takes on a rather different appearance, thanks to an anthracite grey ceramic case contrasted with the vivid blue of the movement.
The case measures 40mm in diameter and 12.8mm thick, including its slightly domed sapphire crystal. The smooth and rounded Streamliner design is well-suited to ceramic. The alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces create subtle variations in the material’s appearance. The screw-down crown is engraved with an “M”, and the case is fitted with a sapphire caseback. Water resistance is 120m.
Inside the case is a fully skeletonised construction with no conventional dial. The bridges and main plate of calibre HMC 814 are finished in blue, referencing Alpine Motorsports and contrasting against the anthracite case. The openworked barrel at 12 o’clock and the skeletonised architecture allow light to pass through the movement. Legibility is ensured by Globolight (a composite material, ceramic base with Super-LumiNova) indices and inserts on the three-dimensional hour and minute hands.
At 6 o’clock sits the one-minute flying tourbillon with H. Moser’s double hairspring. Produced in-house by sister company Precision Engineering AG, the two hairsprings are designed to compensate for variations in the centre of gravity as they expand and contract, improving precision and isochronism. The skeletonised tourbillon bridge receives the same blue finish as the main bridges and plate.
The self-winding HMC 814 operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour and uses a bi-directional pawl winding system and a fully skeletonised gold oscillating weight. It stores a minimum of 72 hours of power reserve.
