Late last week, Cory Asbury posted a recap of his summer on the road with Forrest Frank. One of the photos showed him and Frank flexing after a workout, shirts off. After a week of people criticizing the photo, Asbury deleted it and posted a video explaining why.
“A few days ago, I posted a recap of the tour with Forrest, and one of the pictures was a picture of a couple of us working out, shirts off,” he said. “Honestly, I didn’t think much of it, but I wanted to bring some clarity to that post.” His intent, he said, was to show “the culture that we were experiencing on the road. It was about mind, body, soul, health.”
“There was no intention for anyone to stumble or be a block of offense at all,” he said.
He took it down “in humility,” because “that doesn’t need to live on the internet as a thing of offense that could possibly be a stumbling block.”
He stopped short of agreeing with the criticism.
“I realize a lot of different people share a lot of different opinions on modesty, and maybe one day we’ll weigh in on that,” he said. “It doesn’t matter that much for us to post what we’re looking like if it’s causing people offense. It’s just not necessary.”
He also asked people to leave Frank out of it.
“I posted that photo,” Asbury emphasized. “Forrest didn’t post that photo. It was from my account, so lay off my boy. Give him some slack.”
But that didn’t stop the comments from roasting Cory a bit.
“I’ll be honest, it made me stumble 😔,” Andy Mineo replied. It is now the most-liked comment on the video by a wide margin.
“Wait till they hear about Adam and Eve,” wrote Jason Kennedy, who came back a second time with “Glad I screenshotted it — looks great in our living room.” Pastor Jonathan Pokluda asked, “Why didn’t you post my photo?” Jon Keith went with, “Here’s the thing tho… can you send it to me?”
Asbury appears to be enjoying himself. “These comments are sendingggggg me, y’all,” he replied.
