Since COVID-19, the next pandemic is no longer abstract, and preparedness is no longer optional. Europe is investing heavily in infrastructure, expertise, and ecosystems that can respond quickly. Representing an investment of approximately €46 million by the German federal government and the State of Hessen, it underscores the region’s scientific capabilities. Philipps University Marburg is also an affiliated entity of the European Vaccines Hub for Pandemic Readiness, a pan-European public-private partnership co-funded by the European Commission under DG HERA. The initiative has a total project budget of approximately €170 million. It is dedicated to building end-to-end vaccine development capacity for future health emergencies.
